The street artist Banksy returned to Los Angeles this past week, and I set out to see his work before it could be removed or defaced. Sadly, I didn’t make it in enough time for all of the pieces. Watch the amazing documentary Exit Through the Gift Shop to learn more about Los Angeles’ experience of Banksy and several other important street artists.

Isn’t this remarkable?

For a brief history of the Brooklyn neighborhood DUMBO, click here. For “Paper Chase,” a New Yorker Talk of the Town bit this photo reminds me of, about Bernie Madoff’s found files along the East River, click here. I tried to find a really colorful account I read a year ago of the original meanings of the acronym DUMBO its artist residents made up to ward off developers–if you know of one, please feel free to link it in a comment. Thank you!

Amazing contributor Sean has been photographing damaged, vandalized, abandoned, and weathered bicycles for some time, and he has been kind enough to give me permission to post some of the “tragedies” he has documented. Please visit his full collections here and here. (And hope all of the riders walked away unharmed.)

Adrift in abandonment. What’s so remarkable about this photo, at least to me, is how appropriately anxious the bear’s expression is, in its location. It’s almost as though the bear is reacting.
